Cats Need Help Not Abuse

Sadly, in my neighborhood, there is a small group of unknown people harming cats and getting away with it. No one is coming forward to stop them and the police have not been able to catch them in action. So without evidence, we can not stop this group of animal abusers. We do not know if cats are the only thing they are harming but it is the only thing coming to our property hurt. When will animal abusers realize the pain they cause? When will the abuse stop? We need help caring and protecting the animals in our neighborhood.

There are many cat shelters in Missouri but none in Bates county. I have considered starting a cat shelter but lack the proper funds. They need a safe place they can go without a threat for food, water, and shelter to be safe. The homeless cats in Bates county need a safe habitat while they recover from any injuries or surgeries.

They have boken cat paws They have shot cats in the head, side of the face, in their backs and tails. They have allowed their dogs to chase and chew on cats like a chew toy and then denied it because I did not have a picture to prove their horrible behaviors. They get away with crimes because no one has caught them in a picture. This group of people show no respect for animals and the laws protecting them. No creature should be harmed and that is why we voted for animal rights and laws protecting all animals.

The vicious people on my block does not seem to care about laws. Having a sick cat is horrible and leaves me and others feeling helpless and frustrated.  Animal abusers have been caught in the past and must be caught before their abuse will stop. The vicious people on my block does not seem to care about the laws protecting my pets. Having a sick cat and not be able to help it makes me feel helpless and frustrated.

Cats fall under certain laws that protect them about being abused but can also cause the owner to get a violation if left unattended. Cats are a great pet and are being used in therapy programs for certain patients around the world. Cats are generally trusting creatures and no one should get away with abusing a cat. There are a large number of homeless cats on my block and hate those who are abusing these animals.

Animals naturally reproduce every few months, just like humans, unless they go through a surgical procedure. This surgery is not very cheap and I can not afford to stop the reproduction cycle of all the unwanted animals in Bates County. I have asked for help but I am not getting any assistance from any officials in Bates county. I feel the officials in Bates county could work with local Vets and provide a safe environment for this surgical procedure and that would help reduce the growing number of homeless cats. Without some form of help, Bates county will have hundreds if not thousands of homeless animals.

I have listened to people tell two different stories about homeless animals in Bates county but in the end of both stories, animals are being abused and no one is helping them. They are being denied the basic food and water to survive if they are kicked out to the curb or born in the wild. Some have been dumped in the country and forced to find food and water if they do not become a meal for a wild animal. Then there are the poor cats that are sick or wounded and are left to either heal or die. Some have wandered onto my property or someone points them out to me because I will try to help but I can not handle all the cats in this town without the financial assistance from others.

What kind of person ignores a suffering creature? I just took care of a cat that was shot in the face and another who had a broken leg. How can anyone allow a cat to suffer or stand by and watch?  If you see a stray animal, I beg you to help them any way you can. Approach cautiously because it is very dangerous to approach any sick or wild animal.  If you are unable to help the hurt animal, please call someone who can.

There are many No-Kill shelters who could help you or provide you with someone willing to foster the animal until there is an opening at one of those shelters. Bates County does not have a cat shelter and no one wants to deal with it. The county does not have the funds to operate one or they choose to look the other way. This is why I am always finding ways to help the creatures or find someone to sponsor a surgical procedure or donate funds to cover medical expenses. I wish I had the funds and space to handle this problem but I can not at this time. We have been very lucky to find the help in the past.

Animals may not be able to communicate about their needs but there is no reason to abuse a cat. Animals will show signs of abuse, just like a human, but you have to know what to look for or you will need to take the animal to the Vet for the proper medical examination. Please do not look the other way if you suspect someone is abusing an animal.

Feral could pose health issues

The following information was captured from the Missouri Revised Statutes.

 Beginning January 1, 2017–Animal abuse–penalties.

578.012. 1. A person commits the offense of animal abuse if he or she:

(1) Intentionally or purposely kills an animal in any manner not allowed by or expressly exempted from the provisions of sections 578.005 to 578.023 and 273.030;

(2) Purposely or intentionally causes injury or suffering to an animal; or

(3) Having ownership or custody of an animal knowingly fails to provide adequate care which results in substantial harm to the animal.

  1. Animal abuse is a class A misdemeanor, unless the defendant has previously been found guilty of animal abuse or the suffering involved in subdivision (2) of subsection 1 of this section is the result of torture or mutilation consciously inflicted while the animal was alive, in which case it is a class E felony.

I know having a pet is very costly and many pet owners fail to get their pets spayed or neutered. That is why there are so many homeless cats and dogs everywhere. Many pet owners skip important shots like their rabies shot and other important vaccines to protect the animal and the humans that may come in contact with their pet. If their efforts fail, many cats are dropped within a block to my home. Do they think these cats will get help or do they think they will become someone else’s problem?

I have always been an animal lover and contributed to organizations that went out of their way to help an animal in danger or donated to shelters to help cover costs of housing strays or feral cats. If I had the proper location and more funds, I would take in all the homeless, stray or feral cats in town. In this town, cats seem to get overlooked because they can not tell if its a pet or stray and they do not have the man hours to address the cat population problem but they are quick to pick up a dog. Not that I want any animal locked in a cage.

Cats are exciting and mysterious creatures that have been around for hundreds of years. There are many breeds of cats and being cross breed daily. Cats bring excitement and happiness into our lives and make our homes playground. Cats are willing to open their heart to anyone. There is a large number of cats looking for a new home and I encourage you to save pet not buy one one from a pet dealer. There are millions of pets looking for a loving family.

I love my children dearly and our efforts to help others or animals. My mission for this blog will be to inform others about the issues we face assisting the abandoned or stray/feral cats in our neighborhood. We accept all forms of help and we are just a small family trying to impact the group of cats in near our home. Food and toys, cat litter and litter pans, are always needed but cash donations need to go to a vet in our area. We are not a charity yet but we do what we can. Please contact me if you have anything you could contribute to our efforts. Thank you for your time and support.
